Luvena Rangel, founder of The Curvy Yogi, is a big, tall & curvy E-RYT Yoga instructor, with an academic background in medicine, Holistic Health as well as teaching certifications in Ayurvedic Lifestyle and Education & Meditation from Deepak Chopra’s Center for Wellbeing. As a Co-Active Coach and Professional Trainer, she blends her experience of over 15 years in the corporate space with a focus on Diversity and Inclusion through social, communal and Organizational Culture and is a Community Partner with Yoga and Body Image Coalition .
Following an accident in 2008 that left her with a severely compromised lumbo-sacral spine, no prognosis to walk and a treatment that left her extremely overweight, she dug deep within to overcome the depression and find renewed grit, determination and focus to find a yoga practice that helped recover and regain her composure and eventually, to even take dancing lessons! She believes her practice and varied holistic protocols helped her in successfully reversing her severe hypothyroidism of 13 years!
Her classes, workshops and seminars are steeped in her extensive knowledge in Anatomy, her skilled observation and intuition as well as her philosophy that yoga and wellness is beyond the exclusivity of race, color, creed.. and body shape, size and body-type. An active proponent of body acceptance and safe asana practice, she is an expert educator in Yoga Anatomy and safe practice.
Today, Luvena is one of Bangalore’s leading Yoga Anatomy, Physiology and Wellness Educators having trained over 100 yoga teachers and offers personal sessions to individuals with spinal injuries and other health conditions. Luvena’s aspiration to use her personal life experience and health challenges to drive her purpose and inspire healing and health was the reason to establish The Curvy Yogi.
Luvena is a expert advisor to Yoga Alliance Standards Review Project in the Inclusion workgroup. She is also an Accessible Yoga Ambassador promoting and offering accessible yoga sessions to all individuals.
